Response to Re: It lives.. Briefly

I already have a Quicksilver screw on marine fuel filter on because we've had issues with the boat doing this before...

You guys will be happy to know that I got the motor to idle pretty decently. I took the carb off this morning and it was full of crap, so i cleaned it out and it runs pretty good.. Still lots of tinkering to do but its not bad.

I actually took it out on the water for a quick cruise and it definitely needs some ignition work and some more carb work.. I think I may give up on this stupid carter AFB, we've had nothing but problems with it for years and Ive about had it.. its always whats made the boat non-turn key.

Paul, do you have any links handy about the carbs? Im considering going to an edlebrock or holley (one of my friends says he has one that he'd give me pretty cheap and ran good)

Under full throttle it just doesnt go, so I'll probably go through the carb again, probably rebuild it and we'll see what that does.. I think it may need to get blown out again. Of course, the timing will need to be set.

On the flywheel, is the "R" the correct timing mark, or is there something else? I looked many times and I didnt see anything other than that.

Really wasnt a big deal since the starter wasnt done, it still needed more work to get done. I was at least glad to get it running pretty good, enough to get the motor broken in. Its probably logged on about 1.5 hour of running time so far, so after a weekend it should be ready for an oil change and then full service.

My next post will include 2 new videos of the motor running!
