Response to I'll put a timing light on it tonight if I can make it to the marina. |
| Under the rotor, in the center, is a felt wick. A few drops of thin oil will help lubricate the shaft the mechanical advance pivots on. If the idle screws don't seem to do anything, but it idles ok, then the float level may be too high, or the needle/seat is leaking allowing the fuel level in the float bowl to rise.
A carburetor is like drinking a coke with a hole in the side of the straw..the main jets don't meter fuel until the air flow/vacuum signal suck hard enough to overcome the air leak through the air bleed jets. Analogizing further, the float bowl is like a toilet..the level drops, and fuel flows in. If the level is too high the toilet runs, or the carb works without the idle circuit.
Check total timing..it should be all in by 3000-3200 rpms. Probably 30-32 degrees, unless yer running 93 octane. |
