Hi there,

Where are some of the places you have bought new/NOS or even second hand parts from for your restoration? I have a Commuter wagon and am having a hard time trying to find parts like back up lights and various trim. Especially since I'm from New Zealand!!

Cheers

Hamish

Sorry for the lack of response. I've been at the farm in MN. for vacation. No Internet.
Terry I have 12 headliner bows. I've sent you an email.
Hamish, This project has taken over 4 years. I've collected parts from, vintage parts suppliers, junkyards, ebay, Craigslist, Hemmings, and as in the case of the headliner bows and a few other parts had to make them from scratch. These are not easy cars to find parts for. If I had to do it again, I'd look for a parts car or two, to have as a standby and source of parts. If you look at the other project I'm starting this is what I've done. Good Luck! There is a car in a AZ junkyard that might have some of the parts you need. Here is the link. http://www.dvap.com/ the car is number 59ME1338C.

This Thursday I leave for the Concours at St. John. Here's the newest honor that I've received for the car.

The Concours style of automobile exhibition has long been associated with clothing fashions. In keeping with this tradition, our Concours always has a brief section of the event called the Mode du Concours, which is a fashion segment. This involves attractive young women modeling unique fashions that complement the automobiles of the show. See attachment for examples.

Although they most typically use the cars like Duesenbergs, and European classics, we’ve been asked to provide a car from the Jet Age Station Wagon class to participate in this feature. The fashion coordinators and our Car Selection Chairman have requested your 1959 Mercury wagon for this honor, and would like to know if you would accept.

I'm getting pretty excited to go. The weather forecast does look pretty hot & humid. Hope I don't have to wear a suit. ;)

Here's how she looked 10 days ago. I hope to have a finished photo up on Wednesday before I leave.

Dane & Dale have a lot to be proud of, we managed a Lion award (runner up) for the class on our first time out! The class winner was a spectacular 1961 Chrysler New Yorker Station Wagon. Other runner ups were one of the six 1959 Cadillac Broadmoor Skyview wagons, and a 1959 Buick LeSabre. The rest of the wagons were fabulous, and we were honored to be in their company.

After three plus years of looking at photos, nothing compares to seeing it in person. The car is just amazing! I'm looking forward to when it comes home, and I can put some real miles on her.

Thanks Theo, and everyone on this forum who has watched and encouraged us through this restoration.
I think these will be the last shots posted on this car, unless there is something specific someone wants. If someone does want something specific please feel free to ask. I'll do my best to deliver.
We didn't have time before hand to post the finished interior. So here they are...

A really great thread all the way through. I learned a lot from the pictures, and I totally admire the attention to detail throughout the restoration. Thanks Richard, I hope I get to see the car in person some day.

Cheers
