Yeah, they're not spectacular trucks, but do their job fine. Diesel is currently 1,40 Euro per liter. You get the picture.

:oops: .....seems you're with my folks, eh! Aftermarket trick parts are probably cheaper than my old fashioned resto plans Also my plans rarely became true. Maybe I need to wait another decade or so,....good stocks or bad stocks. Maybe I just don't want to know. :)

Also keep in mind that you need to adjust the right lifter pre load. In the case of adjustable rocker arms with hydraulic lifters it's about setting to the right "lifter pre load". On solid lifters it's all about "valve lash" adjustment.
Just in case you don't know.
Set your lifter pre load one by one by bringing each cylinder to its' compression stroke. That's when the piston is appx. at TDC of the compression stroke (Top Deck Center) and both valves are fully closed at the same time. Don't confuse it with the exhaust stroke.
Adjust both valves by tightening the lash adjuster while you spin the push rod between your finger tips....until you feel a slight drag(called zero lash). Then tighten the lash adjuster and additional 1/4 - 1/2 turn as this equals about appx. 0.030" pre-load on the lifter. Keep in mind that you won't have that slight drag if your lifters are not pre filled with oil.
If for some reason you decide not to soak your lifters with oil over night, determining the zero lash point will have to be visually w.or w/o a dial gauge and with some feel of your fingers.

Check out this video. Be aware that the demo engine has a different firing order. I link it because the lifter pre load thing is good for any hydraulic lifter engine exceot that the number of turns on the adjusting nut may vary depending on the brand of shaft mounted rocker arm.

Theo, remember this engine is S O L I D lifters..... I have the valve lash specs. :mrgreen:

Thanks for the comp cams stuff... I will post my set up when I get the spacers.

I received my Harland sharp spacers, and a couple of needed to be cut down, so I chucked them up and took the difference off with my old Atlas metal lathe. Nice setup, and very simple.
MEL Marine division... and if you thought MEL car parts were scarce....

Here is a photo of another one, happens to be aboard a 38' Chris Craft Commander (fiberglass) of 1965, 275 horse version.

This is essentially the same engine as a 430 but the 431 designation was used when they (CC) went to the updated cooling system.

A pair of these "big dogs" would push a 38' 20,000 pound fiberglass Chris Craft Commander up to 30 miles per hour!

Definitely great photos Paul. Tank you for sharing. May I steel them by copieing and uploading them to remain local at the forum server. This way they wouldn't get lost in case the owner removes or relocates his photo collection from the other server.
