Also keep in mind that you need to adjust the right lifter pre load. In the case of adjustable rocker arms with hydraulic lifters it's about setting to the right "lifter pre load". On solid lifters it's all about "valve lash" adjustment.
Just in case you don't know.
Set your lifter pre load one by one by bringing each cylinder to its' compression stroke. That's when the piston is appx. at TDC of the compression stroke (Top Deck Center) and both valves are fully closed at the same time. Don't confuse it with the exhaust stroke.
Adjust both valves by tightening the lash adjuster while you spin the push rod between your finger tips....until you feel a slight drag(called zero lash). Then tighten the lash adjuster and additional 1/4 - 1/2 turn as this equals about appx. 0.030" pre-load on the lifter. Keep in mind that you won't have that slight drag if your lifters are not pre filled with oil.
If for some reason you decide not to soak your lifters with oil over night, determining the zero lash point will have to be visually w.or w/o a dial gauge and with some feel of your fingers.
Check out this video. Be aware that the demo engine has a different firing order. I link it because the lifter pre load thing is good for any hydraulic lifter engine exceot that the number of turns on the adjusting nut may vary depending on the brand of shaft mounted rocker arm.
