59 Colony Park Frame off Restoration

Post by Shelby#18 » Fri 24. Jul 2009, 16:17

Here is the progress so far on the restoration. The engine should be done soon if the shop receives the correct pistons this time. I'll have photo's of that soon also.

I'm allways fascinated how much effort is put into a project. This looks like a very thoroughgoing restoration. Whish my T-Bird could go such a process too.
Keep us watching the progression. Thanx for the photos.
Best regards

Thanks for posting these photos. It looks very clean and well done. This is the one that had been partly restored in the early nineties, correct? I'd love to do a total restoration one day. Until that time I'll have to experience them vicariously.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

No, this one was never restored. I've spoken to the son of the original owner, and the car was just passed around the family. With the thought of someday restoring it. The family had lost interest, sold it, and are now eagerly awaiting completion of the car. It was a great find for me because it was not molested, and had all the original parts (even the spark plug wires). It was just worn enough, and not used in years that it warranted a frame off.

Updated photo's, and comments from my restorer. :)
Here are some pics of the panels in final surfacer primer. After the rest
of the car is in the same state, they will be blocked out once more with
320grit, then gone over with 600 to soften the 320 scratches, before being
sealed and painted. When they are sanded at that point and wet down, they
will really look like glass.

Your wiring also came in from Narragansett and I am thouroughly impressed.

Restoring the most fragile parts of the car....
As my restorer states...
the pics just don't do justice to the graining effect. In person they look
very much like real maple.
