Hello from NJ. 1960 Premiere Coupe

Feel free to introduce yourself. No obligation off course, but a nice way to get known to you a little. It's allways good to know your first name. Jeff or John sounds better than, "hey linc58prm2_1......"

Hello from NJ. 1960 Premiere Coupe

Post by rld14 » Tue 17. Apr 2012, 07:16

Hi,
My name is Bill and I live in North Jersey, right near NY City. I have a 1960 Premiere coupe that I have been throwing piles of money at, I mean fixing up.

Bought it last august, it's got a pretty solid body, good interior, decent chrome and runs.. well... so-so. It's Cloud Silver with Silver and Black interior. It's also got factory speed control, which is why I bought the thing, it's built about 200 cars from the end of production (August 12 build date) and the serial # on the speedostat is #96!

At the moment I just got it back on the road after radiator shop screwed up twice and I have a few issues I am working on..

The car runs smooth and quiet, some of the time. I get an intermittent lifter tick that's pretty loud and then the car idles rough. I figure, at a minimum, I ought to throw new lifters in it. It has some slight blowby at idle, mainly when it's cold.

Hello Bill,
Welcome to the forum.
Sounds like a great car, and a good place to invest tons of money into. Many of us are in the same boat. (no pun intended).

I'd love to see photo's of the speed control you mentioned. I have an NOS set up in the box but have not installed it yet.

All the best...
Rick

Rick,
You have an NOS setup? What year is it for? I'd love to see pics of that!
My car was built right at the end of 1960 production, build date is August 12th and the serial # on my unit appears to be #96! So these are pretty rare I'm told. A quick check of the parts catalog shows that it seems to be unique to a 1960.
Here's some pics of the speed control. It's not working at the moment, but it's high on the list of stuff to fix... The cruise is probably the main reason why I bought the car, I like rare options. I have, in 6 years of looking, never seen another '60 with it, the only other '60 I have seen with it is a 4-door Continental from a road test when the car was new.

That is what mine is a '60. I'll get some photo's up once I get back to my warehouse.

Thanks guys!

Van - I have collected NOS stuff for my different cars since the late 70's. I've had all sorts of stuff. Some of which is being put on the Colony Park restoration, some which I've used on other cars I've restored in the past, and some in storage for other future projects.

rid - I don't remember where I found it, but I've had it for awhile. If the serial number is the one on the triangle piece the complete number is 78000472.

Why yes, Theo! Any parts that we had to make would be considered repro., and of coarse the wiring is all reproduction.
