MEL Moon Polished finned Valvecovers

Post by MrBurnedRubber » Tue 2. Feb 2010, 09:56

How about a set of "Vintage" Moon polished finned Valvecovers for Your 430 and similar?.
I have been in contact with Moon now several times, and apparently they still have the tooling they used in the 1960's.
Moon did not have a picture, and no finished cover to picture, so I have had the shown pictures verified at Moon, that this is Moon covers, and hereby what the new ones will look like. The pictures that I found on the internet, show these installed on a 1960 430, and should fit other years and engine sizes.

Here is the deal.
If at least 10 of us is interested, Moon will make the 10 set's or more for US$ 285 a set.

That price seems reasonable compared to the other polished finned covers they currently lists on their website
A set for the Y-Block is US$ 265, small block chevy is US$ 215 and the chevy 348/409 is US$ 325 and Bigblock chevy is listed at US$398( with breathers)

The covers will be without any holes except those for mounting.

If You are interested and have the US$ 285 available then chime in here, and preferably, mail me Your E.Mail address so I'm sure to reach You when we have 10 interested. send me a note that You want a set to T.Bird at Online.no ( replace "at" with the @ and remove the spaces)

At that point I will take contact with Moon again, and they will prepare the website to take our orders.
From that time they have the minimum 10 orders, the delivery time will be approx 4 weeks.

This is a one time run, and these have not been produced in decades, so do not sit on the fence, til next time this will happen.

Acording to Moon they have no plans to make these permanently available, as the demand is to low.

This is Yor liftime chance to own something unique.

And by the way, these covers will be made in the US, and look like the orignals, as the original molds will be used.

I'm signed up for set number 1

I am so very interested in a set! Everything I think I am have some dough to work on the engine a little something neat like this comes up! Can't pass it up so count me in!!! Everyone post if you are interested.

Please post something to help legitimize this whole thing. Letters, emails etc. I might have to call Moon myself but any documentation that this might happen would be great. Thanks a lot.

I'll take a set

I would have to agree with Buddy, I'd be in if it could be legitimized. Perhaps someone from Moon could chime in.

I just emailed Mooneyes a few minutes ago after emailing the source of all the action above. I will post what I find in the meantime from Moon. Hope burnedrubber has the same info.

I of course would expect everyone to pay Mooneyes directly and not have our money put into a pot and then trust they will be distributed so we have to see what payment methods burnedrubber was told. Fill us in!!!

Subject: Enquiry from Mooneyes

Someone on one of our MEL engine sites stated that he has been contacting
Mooneyes for some time and found out that you still have the tooling from
the 1960's for the MEL engine (Lincoln 430) finned valve covers. Is this by
any chance true? If so he stated that you needed at least 10 takers in order
to start making them. The price he was told was $285 for the pair and they
were to be polished. I hope it is true as I am very interested and I am sure
more than 10 others will be as well. Please let me know. Thank you very much
for your help.

Sorry for screwing up the pictures. Here they are.
I understand the demand for confirmation on this stroy, but I feel that is no longer an issue, as one of You actually got the story confirmed. It is such that there is no contract with moon to show up, but a number of mails with single line replys that are not suitable to post here. In addition there have been a number of phonecalls. I would like to say once again, that I made an agreement with moon to prove the interest with 10 names of people that would like to buy a set for US$ 285, and so far there is no risk for anybody. At the point of 10, I expect Moon to modify their website to be able to take Your order directly. If they modify the website, we will have to trust Moon that they again will make those nice covers. At least that is what we have agreed on. Until there are no response at Moon, after we have reached 10, we should not hammer them directly with individual mails. I would like to collect that list of the 10, and then mail it to Moon with CC to the 9or more others interested. I understand Moon want to do little as possible with this until I can prove we have at least 10 interested.

So far( after 24 hours ) I have 3 on the list, but 2 of us might take more than one set.

We appreciate the info. Moon seemed very excited in my email to let me know they are doing this. They wanted me to email if I was interested and...we can try to get you names as well but don't want to forget anyone since this needs to be on more than 1 site. I think thats why moon wanted names themselves. Lets hope no one bombards them though but they do seem happy to be doing this! Thanks to you!
