Torque Plate for the MEL Engine

Post by Theo » Sun 11. Jan 2009, 02:48

Due to the MEL engine's unique design in deck surface and bore design engine builders have allways been faced with extra work to get the boring bar set up correctly to the MEL's block bore.
A few years ago I have purchased a torque plate that was especially designed for the MEL block. They are in Kultultz garage at this time. Maybe Kultultz can shoot us a few pics and post them below with a brief explanation on how they are designed.
Thanx bunches in advance.
Best regards

Thanx, these are good shots. They show how te plates compensate for the 10°angle. The perfect round holes make it easier for the boring bar to register to the center of the bore.

These are old technology now as the boring machine is setup to come through the main saddle.

I would imagine they would still be useable as Torque Plates.

Those shots are the origional E-Bay photos BTW.

Yes, modern mashines register from the mains. But there are many mashine shops around who still work with old mashines and tooling. Mashines are long term investments and are not exchanged frequently.

I own this MEL torque plate. After Kultulz used it for a while I lend it to "Chris Craft crazy". The idea is to have our participants make use of it. You might want to ask Chris Craft crazy to send it over to you, shipping on your side.
