M-E-L 430 starter.
Does anyone know of a supplier/rebuilder for a MEL starter?
I think the windings are toast.....
Is there any way to improve this old design?
Any advise would be most appreciated..
supplier part numbers etc ...
Thanks

Anthony

I would have yours rebuilt by a reputable rebuilder instead of buying a cheap box store brand (no CHICOM parts).

If you do buy a cheapie, hold onto your origional is it should have the correct I.D. markings.

Most rebuilders are out of business ...... Very sad.....
My starter was in rough shape ...very worn....
I did find a guy about 100 miles away that actually stocks them..
Blax Auto Parts in Ridgefield NJ .... A very helpful guy...Old Timer like me...

Baker's Auto sells high-power starters for '61 and later cars. Will these fit a '59?

I know this is an old post, but for future reference.
The early starters were inertia drive the later were bendix drive.
The later bendix units will bolt into the early vehicles.
I have a readily available standard off the shelf bendix drive FE three bolt starter in my '58 Merc.
