A Hi –Fi Ignition system for your M-E-L DIY005
Pertronix Ignition System
I converted my 1959 lincoln to a Pertronix II Ignition system

Here is a view of the factory set-up

It is Hall Effect Electronic switching unit to switch the coils primary circuit..... Vs: mechanical point switching.

To you M-E-L enthusiasts it’s a Hi –Fi Ignition system.

Remove the points and condenser.

Pertronix 1 Module is nothing more than a pick-up with an amp circuit to trigger a switching transistor...which replaces the mechanical points. It converts the Ignition Coil Switching from Mechanical to Electronic. It is a great Technical advance for switching the circuit. Very few devices use mechanical switching today and if your computer were to use that type switching, it would take up 6 city blocks.
Probably the best performance modification for the $$$ that one can make to M-E-L or any car with points..........There is no comparison to the two systems.

Simple as that!
The blue lug is the ground wire. Grounding the distributor case to the breaker plate.
Please be aware that this system needs 12 volts to operate properly. I jumpered my inline resistor on the firewall or you can simply remove it. (the resistor reduces the voltage to 9 volts)
The Pertronix II System has a micro controller, additional circuitry that also adjusts the dwell / spark timing through the RPM range ...With circuit protection as well.
A very cool device.

Warning:
You do not want to use the Pertronix II with Solid Core plug wires. However most wire sets we use are resistor type wires.

Read the directions carefully from the manufacturer. It takes all but 10 minutes to install.

oh yes, its a wonderful system and i totally agree about it being about the best value upgrade you can do, and it's easy. the best part is, for you "originalists" out there, it looks the same as the points system! same distributor and cap and all. my friends have a joke about it- it would be "pointless" not to do it!

I've done it on all my classic cars. I haven't been disappointed yet!

Ditto. It's a great upgrade. Easy to install & invisible. The engine starts easier, runs better and gets better mpg (or so I'm told about the mpg, can't verify it).

I have the Pertronix Ignitor I. It has one drawback: it will go kaput if you leave your ignition switch on with the engine turned off. They fixed this with the Ignitor II.

Wow, that's new to me. Reijer, I bought mine about 10 years ago. Is it one of those bad ones?
So far no problem w. my ignitor, but I don't leave the ignition on while I'm parking.

If it's ten years old, yes I'd say that's the Ignitor I. I should get a spare Ignitor II on eBay... just in case.
