Supercharger setups

Post by Tim McBride » Thu 17. Jun 2010, 22:17

So we've seen a few supercharger setups, are these one off creations or at some point did someone actually offer a supercharger intake for the MEL?

Wiend made a manifold, front cover and drive assembly for the GMC 6-71 style blower.
I saw a blower manifold on ebay a while back. I am pretty sure one of the members of this forum bought it. TJR

Thanks for the info. I imagine the draw a hefty premium at sale.
Every now and then I think about wanting to build one up, then sanity (and reality of the checkbook) returns.

My brother and I kicked around the idea of adapting a 460 assembly to the MEL engine. He has a blown 460 in a 55 ford truck. Ungodly fast.
Slover's intake adapters would allow the use a 460 ford blower manifold. The crank snout would have to be turned down to 460 size and a belt tensioner would have to be fabracated. We don't think the water pump would interfer. The fuel pump would have to be removed, and there would be a concern over distributor clearance. Crab cab set ups for MEL engines are tough to come by. 460 ford blower kits are all over Summit and Jegs. TJR

The buy it now on this set up was 2000 dollars... it needed some work, but a reasonable price for a rare item

Edited to add: This setup is the only one I have seen, and it sold within one day at the buy it now price of $2000.00
The Intake is the rarity of course.

Ahhhhhhh, now that's what dreams are made of...as far as MEL speed parts go $2000 is a pretty awesome deal for everything you'd be getting. If I had that money lying around when that listing popped up I would have pounced myself.

On a side note, I've never seen a setup w/o the aircleaner on it and it's interesting to see the carbs reversed. Makes a little sense now that I see it

The fun thing with those manifolds is the distribtor is covered by the intake.

Have to run a dummy for oil pump function and a belt or cam driven unit for ignition.
