I second Keith's comment on excessive sluge in non PCV road draft engines. The MEL I built up had tons of sludge accumulated inside everywhere. It was a 1958 430 with the typical road draft crank case ventilatin. Horrible. It was the dirtiest engine I've ever layed my hands on.
