MEL Rocker Arms interchange with those on the FE Engine

Post by Theo » Fri 2. Jan 2009, 11:53

You can interchange the MEL rocker arms with those used on Ford FE engines. You can take great advantage of choosing from a wide variety of existing aftermarket rockers for these engines.
Someone has to chime in for the rest of the valve assembly. I can't really remember the details.

P.S. Off course the push rods have to be changed accordingly. Please read here for more details

The FE rockers are in-fact the same as the MEL. However, only the rockers will interchange. Not the rocker shafts nor the shaft stands. The MEL shafts are a tad longer than the FE and the stands are shorter than the FE. My suggestion for performance applications is to find a set of FE "steel" stands or after market ones and have them machined down to be the same hieght as the MEL, This works good for me on the AA/Fuel Coupe.

I thought MEL rockers are 1.9 ratio. FE is 1.73. we did use FE adjustable rockers and MEL stands and shafts on our 430 dirt track car in the 60's.

Yeah, the original adj. steel rocker are 1.76:1 ratio while those you can get from Harland Sharp are @ 1,73 and @ 1.8:1 ratio.

Oh, I forgot to mention. The Harland Sharp rocker arms need extra space under the stock. valve covers of an FE.
That might be the case with stock MEL colors too. I haven't checked.
