'62 Lincoln Transmission Fluid Question

Post by joeyq80 » Thu 3. Mar 2011, 14:03

Hi,

I'm wondering what kind of transmission fluid to use in my '62 Lincoln Continental? It has the original dual range turbo drive transmission, and the shop manual specifies Type A fluid (now obsolete). I read another post on this site that references replacing the fluid with Dexron/Mercon, however I've also read that Type F fluid is specified for all Ford Automatic Transmissions Prior to 1977. My tendency is to use Type F fluid, has anyone else done this?

Comments appreciated!

I've always used contemporary trans fluid without problems.
Best regards
