The latest update on valve sizes was wrong in regard to the Intake valve. All figures corrected to best knowledge. Thanks again Ted.

Here are some additional valve related figures

Escept for the valve guide to guide clearance, it's already in the main chart. Thanx for your contribution. I will add it in a minute.

Did FORD supply the 431 MARINE or did Chris Craft perform the modifications :?:

The gear drive you mentioned, is it two gears (like the 302-332 LINC Y truck engines) where the drivetrain becomes reverse drive?

I'm unsure of who provided the specs, but I feel fairly confident that Ford provided the tail shaft conversion for the crank. The gear drive also was part of that.

While the heads were being done on the motor I have, we tested valve springs, and found them to be weak compared to factory spec, so I am listing the specs for valve springs as a result of that.

Camshaft ID:5750914

Valve Springs
Free Length: 2.030" (approx)
Out of square maximum: 0.062"
Load at specified length-
Valve spring and damper assembly:

New: 66-77 @ 1.830"
Used-wear limit: 60 @ 1.830"

New: 240-260 @ 1.430"
Used-wear limit: 225 @ 1.430"

As usual, 10% is about the norm for acceptable wears. My springs were anywhere from 185 to 215... in this case, probably from a lot of sitting while compressed over the last fifty years. Keep in mind that racing engines with high pressure valve springs usually have the tension taken off them when not in use for a period of time.

Some early 430 Lincoln images. These came from the Advance Service Manual- Sept. 1957. Will be adding some more interesting items in the near future.
