1960 430 and 462 parts interchange

Post by Brushwolf » Sun 29. May 2011, 08:14

I just.got a 1960 430 and was wondering which parts off a 64 and 67 462 will fit on it. I learned that MEL engines after 1960 do not allow using FE bellhousing, and stick trans. I have to use 58-60 block so I can runT85 trans. Can you guru's tell me which parts from the 462's will fit on the 430? Cam's the same? What would you use from 462 if just doing a cleanup and run or what 462 parts would you use if engine requires rebuild?

You can swap heads between these engines, note the port size on the 462 is shorter, smaller. So if you are using 462 heads you should use a 462 manifold. I dont know why they did this, I ran 60 heads on a 65 430 motor with no problems using a 58 manifold. Good to find the pre 61 block it will share the more common ford fe style trans options.
