I need a little knowledge

Post by tuneport67ss » Tue 1. Mar 2011, 16:51

I have a 61 430 in a Lincoln continental. It currenly has the 2bbl on it. Even though the carb is a fresh rebuilt one, I would like to go to a 4bbl. Can someone let me know what years, vehicles, and engine sizes that came with a 4bbl that will be a direct replacement for my current intake? I am not interested in assorted an all that mess. I would like to keep it looking like it came that way original. If there is an aftermarket one that will fit too, could someone let me know the manufacture and the part number so I can source it.
Thanks
Brad

I believe that any MEL 4 brl. Intake will interchange w. the 2 brl. versions. Choose the carbutaror according to the 4 hole lay out on the manifold. It should be std. Holley and Carter dimensions.
Good luck.
Best regards

Stay away from the 58 to 60 Lincoln, Edsel, Thunderbird, or Mercury. They are visibly taller and might cause hood clearance issues.

You would want to stay with the '61 to '65 units for best fit. Don't know specific casting numbers but should start with C1 up to C5

Aftermarket 4v are unknown to me.

Thanks for the responses. I have been searching and have only found 4bbls off the earlier models and off of the later 462s. Will these 462 manifolds be a direct bolt up on the 430. I haven't found any 4bbl manifolds for the 61-65s. Any other advice and knowledge is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Brad

I'm not sure, The 462 heads I have are '67 units and they raised the port floor quite a bit. The '65 heads I have are like the early head ports. If the intake port is also raised on the 462 intake it might leak on an earlier head. Otherwise it will bolt up.

I'm not near the parts to compare, perhaps someone else has already? Photo courtesy of Chris Craft crazy

63, 64 and 65 all have a four barrel intake.

From memory... you can use 63, 64 and 65 430 intake & heads as a set. The 66 and 67 462 intake & heads have a different size runners. So, the runners in the 462 heads are smaller than the runners in the 430 intake manifolds... resulting in an obstruction of the flow of the air-fuel mixture. Hence the tip to use 63, 64 and 65 430 intake & heads as a set.
