Need help on my diverters. My cylinder block thermostats do not protrude the block like the ones i've seen on the pics in this forum. They are flush mounted inside the block. Can anyone help me find out the differnce between them? I have been looking for replacement diverters to fit my 59' 430 cid.

Two Styles of Block Thermostats
There were two different styles of block thermostats and this is covered in a 1958 LINC-MERC Service Bulletin. They are interchangeable. The problem is that the block thermostats are no longer serviced as LINC deleted them in early/mid sixty production. They are not necessary for normal operation. The diverters are.

What's up with the block thermostats? I see several posts saying they are not needed, other say they are? Also, has anyone found a source for these thermostats?
KULTULZ, I couldn't read the link you posted - it was in Asian.

There are many who successfully run their engines without the diverters.

Thanks for the link.
I was specifically asking about block thermostats, Diverters are currently available from a number of sources including Baker's Auto ($110), Lincon Land ($115), Lincoln Parts International ($125) and Classique Cars ($148.50) + S&H.

Oups, I'm sorry. My wrong, I confused the diverters w. the thermostats. Off course the diverters are needed. Many haven't noticed any performance draw backs when not using the two small block thermostats. To my best knowledge those have been discontinued. I have no other information on those but you might try a search for old lincoln parts dealer.
Good luck.
Good luck.
