If the deck heights were provided, the computer spreadsheet my dad did would give you the design as well.
MEL Marine division... and if you thought MEL car parts were scarce....

Thanks again Theo, they will be looking at the post and gathering the needed information. The current builder does build race engines for hot rods, and circle track cars. He was aware of the zero deck, but will go with a 15,000th clearance since it is not going to be for racing. Darn! Again information is key here, as we would like the best possible results all the way around.

Yes, I'm sure, but it's fun to try it out via various ways. So all we need are the dimensions. It would have to be one of you guys who are currently in the rebuilding process. I have a couple of FE blocks in my garage but no MEL block.
Best regards

I have to thank you guys. I wasn't expecting me to be much involved in the discussions as I'm mainly an FE guy who has been solitary for a few years now. But you guys are an interesting bunch of people I think and a lot of fun to chat with. So again, I thank you guys for filling up this place with your interesting projects.

Yes that's right. It is not absolutely needed and I understand that he's trying to keep an extra clearance for safety and for further block decking in the future.
On the other hand the zero deck clearance, or let it be a close to, is a good situation for a number of reasons that won't hurt a street cruiser either. For instance it is much less prone to pinging and detonation problems especially on relatively high compression ratios with todays fuel quality.
Anyway looks like things go fine and it wasn't too bad anyway. Most people could have perfectly lived with the first 9.6:1 slugs.

Dunno if your dad has the time and mood, but I would entirely appreciate to view your dad's results.

Looks good. Please let us know if they measure as needed once you do a mock up. Hope they made them correctly this time.

How much did they charge for the pistons and rings? I would also appreciate if you can tell me compression ratio you ended up with. Thanks

The pistons were dropped off on Monday to the engine builder. I'll post when we get the results.

All the best....

For future quick reference; here are Rick's custom pistons from Wiseco. See Rick's build thread here: http://www.ford-mel-engine.com/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=300
