1960 Heads and carb questions
Well this is a question more for the heads I bought. I bought 1960 heads for my 67 462. I did this because I am putting the 1958 tri power intake on the engine and needed the intake ports to match. The 462 has shorter ports than the 58 intake. my question is that I was told not to buy heads from 1960 since the motor was a 2 barrel engine. I was told the heads were 58-59 and when I got them it said 60! Anyone out there able to help me out. I cannot imagine the heads are that different than 59 or 60 just because of the intake used and carb. I know the intake ports match. They can be machined for larger valves is that was the case or anything else. Thanks for the help!

Re: 1960 Heads and carb questions
only experience I have with 2 barrel engine is a 430 with a 2 barrel carb. cannot remember what year. the intake has smaller ports than the 4V intake, heads were the same. as long as the heads and intake manifold ports match, it should work fine. I have a 1960 T-Bird 430, it has larger valves than the later 430 has, so you should have the best setup.

A late entry here-
The 430 2V (LINC) was produced from 1960 to 1962. I do not have early cataloging to actually ID head changes (or TSB's).
1958 was the performance period. 1959 saw a recession and fuel economy concerns.
The 59-60 BIRD used basically the 1959 LINC 4V 430 350HP (very few calibration changes) for performance.
For a street engine, it is better (IMO) to use a head with large runners and smaller valves (as did the FE 428CJ). I think your choice is good for a later 462 cyl head replacement and early TRI-POWER usage.
Factoid: The MEL intake runner was the precursor to the later FE 427LR runners, so the flow potential is there.

Thank you KULTULZ. I always appreciate your input. I think it will be a fine set up too. Its just a cruiser anyways I just like the nostalgic look and I wanted some more upf!KULTULZ wrote:A late entry here-
