Slow Progress, as time and money allows. The Wiseco pistons, one set of rings, the now-reconditioned rods and a rod bearing have all been sent to where the crank is to have the internal assembly balanced. In the grand scheme of what is being spent, a good idea, and the engine will run better for it.

Interesting development... two of the rods have about 8 grams extra, and it is contained in the beam, not the ends. I have to pull four rods out of another engine I have, and send them up to find a match to the other 6. I suspect the casting technology has advanced enough now to make sure that rods are within a few grams. No big deal, I have about four engines, and I want this to be right.

I would have suspected that 6 grams could be grind off the beams easily.

I would have thought so too, but the balancing company through the engine builder thought that a couple of more closely matched rods would be the best way...Oh well can't rush these things

I've heard that Egge has domed pistons, but I'm not sure. I called them and asked specifically, and at that time they said no... flatties. Sent you an email.

Further interesting news... It seems there were a number of rods made for the 430 as well. I have several engines, and one of them was a barn engine I bought strictly for parts. Since the issue balancing the rods, I tore down one of these engines and took four rods out. The casting numbers are different, but so is the entire casting. The balancing pads and end caps are a totally different casting, with a different size of bolt as well. I'm starting to understand why the hot rod guys loved and hated these engines. The block castings between these two motors point to 1959 and one is a 60-61

As I slowly plod through this resto, I find myself gathering stuff even now. I now have a complete balanced rotating assembly, and I just ordered a Precision oil pump M57HV oil pump, and the billet shaft. This is a blueprinted oil pump, and I thought it was very reasonably priced at $89 bucks US. I am in the process of finishing some polishing on various components, and having them hi temperature clear powdercoated... these coatings can be selected for gloss level (I want satin) and will withstand 900 degrees fahrenheit.

A set of Harland Sharp billet roller rockers are in the mix as well now, and I just got my big three pieces, (intake, both bell housings) back from the polisher... I did a lot of the work but Hugo finished them off... They look freakin awesome  Pictures to follow
