Oil pump replacement

Hi I’m in the process of replacing the rear main seal on my 1960 Mel 430 on my Lincoln continental and was going to change the oil pump at the same time. The new oil pump I have is different to the one on the engine but it is supposed to be the correct replacement pump.
The original one has a pipe on the top that connects to the block inside the crank area and then exits the block itself which has a blanking plug on it. Does this top pipe push oil up through the engine or is it some kind of breather or vacuum
I do have good oil pressure so do I just leave it as it is. I do get fumes and smoke exiting the oil filler tube though??
Can anyone advise exactly what I need to do please

What you have is a vacuum pump attached to the oil pump. This vacuum pump along with the intake manifold provide vacuum for the wipers. You can remove this and convert to electric wipers. If you do this then the oil pump you purchased can be used without a vacuum pump.

Looks like his check valve is plugged off with a bolt. Is that just plugged during repairs?
