1958 Export 383 and 430 specs

Post by WerbyFord » Fri 10. Nov 2017, 12:43

Hi there, I read about the "spacers" for the 383 and 430 in 1958, lowering compression from 10.5 to 7.14 or 7.25 respectively.
I am wondering if anybody has the ratings (Torq and HP) for these low-CR "export" engines.

Not that ratings are always accurate, but they might give a feel for how much was lost not just due to the compression drop but loss of the quench step too. :?:

I have not measured the cc of the MEL block/piston chamber but I can say that the 64 430 I have is .050 below deck as is a couple of FE engines I have from that era. If the 58 MEL is a true 10.5:1 then that is what it is. I have a 58 332 with OEM shim gaskets that came up to 8.65:1 vs the 10.2:1 I found. 74.5cc heads with the 4cc head gasket spec from the FE forum.
