Judging by what I have in front of me and what I have seen on a couple of other Lincolns it is a combination of a bad exhaust manifold design, double gasketing and over tighting. With the heads exhaust ports are kind of thin closest to the valve cover rail I am curious on the success rate of repairs. I do not do nor do I know how strong the repair is in the last picture.
