430 thin head gaskets

Post by edselman » Thu 5. Feb 2009, 18:12

I was wondering if anyone knows if the original thin metal head gaskets are available. Recently I did find a set on "the Bay".
Would like to find another set for my 410 engine. Is there a risk of piston to valve contact in using these in my edsel 410 with the early higher lift cam ? Tom :?:

You have to be very careful here, especially on the 410 (was first MEL produced) as MEL had to lower CR on early 1958 production due to pre-ignition/detonation. There was a new service block(s) released with a higher deck/changed to 383 heads with smaller valves and I am fairly sure the 410 was assembled with stacked (2) head gaskets. You need to check valve clearances very carefully if modifying.
