Stroked 430 in 1939 Ford Coupe
Sights on early 60s build (NO PLEATED RUNNING BOARDS!) on this 39 Ford
Coupe. Running 1959 Lincoln 430, that was a race boat engine that the
owner had rebuilt and then lost interest, probably because it weighs
730 lbs. Once we got into the mill, it was a very fresh rebuild, in
fact we believe it had been properly put away and sold. It used to run Algon alc.
injection. its standard bore with jahns 11:1 pistons, and the crank has
been offset ground no clue how much. Its got a complete isky valve
train with a reground isky cam that started life as a 555 isky, its
rowdy. The heads have been ported even though they have caverns already
for ports, and the induction is an early no script edelbrock 6x2 we
also scored a Joe Hunt magneto for it. Its backed by a FE bell and a
toploader 4sp with of course a hurst competition shifter and sideways
suntach, with a 9 inch out back with just enough gear (4:11). Headers
are fender well because we had to move the engine back so much. Anyway
we are getting closer, to firing it up.
Thanks for reading.

Did you modify the carburetors linkage to progressive? I know a man with one of those intakes. His thoughts were to block off the outer 4 carbs. I have no experience on the 6x2 but I thought the fuel mixture would somewhat fall out of suspension before it reached the outer cylinders. How likely would it be that it would run lean on the outer cylinders?

We have blocked off the two center carbs, no progressive linkage on this one, the carbs are the "new" Stromberg 97 that flow around 180 cfm from speedway.

That makes sense. Is it very streetable? If he goes this route it will be in a 1959 Ranchero with a 4 speed manual.

Re: Stroked 430 in 1939 Ford Coupe
we just primed the engine today, and we are having trouble setting the mag timing. I dont think it will be crazy, crazy on the street, because power curve is pretty broad, that being said i still think its going to be absolutely rowdy. Its not going to spin past 5500 rpm but its gonna make plenty of power for that 39 coupe.
Of course its right at 500 inches and 11:1 compression with a big by big isky cam, with lots of fuel and air available. So what i guess im saying is we will have to wait to get it on the street.
