1959 Biesemeyer with 430 MEL 6x2

Post by 59-Biesemeyer » Thu 29. Sep 2016, 07:52

Just introducing myself. I recently acquired a 1959 Biesemeyer 4 Point Hydro Boat with a MEL 430. The 430 is a 1958 Vintage and has been modified with a custom made Ed Winfield Cam and a 6x2 Holley Carb and Edelbrock LM6 intake manifold. It's been sitting for 35 years so the adventure is just beginning. Always garaged and covered so I'm hopeful that with a little work I can bring it back to life.

The plan for Saturday is to replace all water hoses, fuel lines, exhaust hoses to transom, drain fuel tank, change oil/filter, inspect and change spark plugs, Marvel Mystery Oil for each cylinder, install battery, replace water pump impeller. After that I'm having a BBQ for all my mechanic friends and were going to give it a try. Assuming it will run, I still need to replace the Casale V-Drive gasket (leaking) before it will be water ready.

Great progress on Saturday. Fuel lines, water hoses, water impeller and exhaust hoses replaced. Fuel tank was empty. Checked all the plugs and they all appear to be in great shape. Put some Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder while checking the plugs. The best news is the engine turns over! The fuel pump needs some work and we're going to scope the inside of the fuel tank next. If all goes well, I'll change the oil and filter and then we're going to give it a try.
