I am currently assembling the info needed to rebuild the engines and trannys. For the next few months the main focus is the exterior painting and brite work.

First off let's discuss the engines. They run but one has a knock I suspect is the piston walking or wobbling. It only does this at lower rpm and cleans up at 1000 rpm. So they are most likly good build engines. I have found two sets of exhaust manifolds and the parts to convert them to the 431 cooling system.

On that topic lets discuss the difference between the 430 and 431. I would show a picture but for some reason [img] codes are disabled so I can not post my pics. Anyway the 431 had a dual water pump setup with different end caps for the exhaust logs and was thermostat regulated, the 430 was a simple unregulated flow through system. Most think that is the extent in the differences between the 430 and 431, the cooling system. In fact the 430 was a high compression core/long block and Chriscraft(CC) used a spacer plate to drop the compression. The 431 was a low compression engine with different pistons. So they are not the same. One is capable of much better performance.

My plans are to rebuild them and sleeve them back to stock diameter.

I plan to update with pics as soon as I can post pics.
