It costs about 1400 bucks for a set of Wiseco custom pistons... so make your call.
I wouldn't buy spit from Bakers.

Re: Tri-power intake manifold value
The price goes all over the place... a couple of years ago, intakes were going for about 400 dollars, then a year later, I saw one on ebay go for 1500 dollars.... I think a reasonable price is about 700 dollars or so, and the valve covers would be around 400 or so. That is my best guess. (cast alumi...

Re: Flat top pistons?
There are lots of rebuilds out there using flat top pistons. Most Lincoln parts suppliers offer flat top replacement pistons. The car will run fine, and unless you had the original engine makeup along side the flatty rebuild you might not even know the difference. Keep in mind, the flat top piston i...

Re: Flat top pistons?
It will not get better fuel mileage, and it will not develop any where near as much power. The engine will, however, run smoothly and not cause any problems.
Most rebuilds out there will be flat tops these days, but it isn't the right way.

Re: Oil pump
Mahl/Clevite, TRW and Federal Mogul no longer make undersize bearings for the 430. This really complicates things, since they still make regular size bearings..... yet with a nodular iron crank, you can't chrome it to bring it back up to size, and the only other alternative is to either weld onto th...

Re: 58 Merc Park Lane Super Marauder -- Part VII Final Assem
Dave, if you read through this section, you will find that what is being described is the original tripower package for the MEL 430 engine that propelled it to become the first production V8 engine to hit 400 horsepower. The numbers for the original manifold vary, but it would seem that less than 10...

Re: Chris Craft 430ies
What was referred to as older 430's was true... Those are 430H's which used the older cooling system with just the twin impellor raw water pump, and no circulating pump. On the big Chris Craft cruisers that used the 430, they had some issues with keeping the engines cool, so they upped the water flo...

Re: Chris Craft 430ies
I received my Harland sharp spacers, and a couple of needed to be cut down, so I chucked them up and took the difference off with my old Atlas metal lathe. Nice setup, and very simple.

430 Lincoln Nascar.jpg Here is a 1959 'zipper top' thunderbird. These were modified by Holman Moody to run in the Nascar Convertible races that were popular at the time. This car was driven by Banjo Matthews. MEL 430 powered. This car would be similiar to the car Johnny Beauchamp ran at the first D...
