head shaving limits

How much can be safely shaved without having to shave the intake or pushrods? Can I take .020 off.
In short, I came across a set of 58 Edsel heads with big valves, big ports and a bigger rust problem. TJR

Re: Differences Between Early and Late 430s

A late cam can be used in the early blocks by turning down the cam journals. Oregon cams does this for 40 dollars. I suppose any good machine shop can also do that. Cam tech has changed greatly in 50 years, and new patterns can be ground on old cores. So put some thought into your application. Consi...

Guy's name is Andy Allen. San Francisco number 415 388 8695.
Stock 430 tri power bare manifold. It was clean, glass beaded I think.
Good luck. TJR

Re: tri-power

600 for the bare manifold. He may take less now that the swap meet is over.
I have the phone number at home. I'll post it tomorrow.
As for the six duce set up, I'll pick up some of the Demon replica Stomberg 97s. Not going to try to revive six old carbs.

Re: tri-power

Was at a swap meet in Sacramento on Sunday. I found a six duce manifold that was polished and a tri power manifold.
I bought the six duce and have the phone number for guy with the tri power set up. Be happy to forward it. TJR

Re: MEL Engine Series Combustion Chamber & Piston Design

I am not really surprised by the HP numbers, although I must admit the torque numbers are disappointing.
Now I will have to seriously consider putting mine on a dyno when I finish it. I have to know. TJR

Re: Hilborn on my MEL 430

A trans suggestion would be to scour the wrecking yards for a Ford Econoline Toploader. Early 90's. It is a four speed overdrive trans that will take readily use available clutch assembies and handle the power. The overdrive is about 22%. They are cheap and not rare. The shifter linkage needs some T...

Re: Supercharger setups

My brother and I kicked around the idea of adapting a 460 assembly to the MEL engine. He has a blown 460 in a 55 ford truck. Ungodly fast. Slover's intake adapters would allow the use a 460 ford blower manifold. The crank snout would have to be turned down to 460 size and a belt tensioner would have...

Re: Supercharger setups

Wiend made a manifold, front cover and drive assembly for the GMC 6-71 style blower.
I saw a blower manifold on ebay a while back. I am pretty sure one of the members of this forum bought it. TJR
