Re: 63-64 430 MEL head and cylinder combustion chamber size
A better question is what volume do you want for your custom pistons? The stock 430's I've measured yielded below advertised compression. If you haven't gotten pistons you could mock up your old stuff and get the numbers. Standard methodes with a cc plate and burette. The heads need a known volume c...

Re: Found this on Ebay, too expensive for me. Still cool
Too bad it has the wrong carbs and linkage.
Those folks ask $3000 for the reproduction breather and $1000 for the reproduction fuel pump so $2000 for an intake and wrong carbs seems a lot.

410 piston
Need a good used or NOS '58 410 piston, standard bore. If it's on a rod, fine.

Re: 430 MEL in Grist Bros '41 Willys Coupe
The book is Supercharged Gas Coupes by Don Montgomery. If you like Gassers it's a must have. Ted had told me "The Lincoln" dragster never did suffer a crank failure as the Mel's have a high nodular iron crank. He did say there was cracking when they experimented with small rod journals so they kept t...

Re: 430 MEL in Grist Bros '41 Willys Coupe
Really neat, having built / owned a '40 Willlys (blown 392 Chrysler) and being a Mel fan it this is just plain cool. I recall seeing the one pic in my Supercharged Gas Coupes book not knowing the '59 Ford engine in the caption was a Mel. Ted Cyr not only helped his bearings with the oil galley mods,...

Re: '62 Lincoln Continental Exhaust Manifold Gasket Replacem
Not sure the heads have to come off. I'd hope not.
If the heads don't come off (and aren't surfaced as suggested) I'd recommend using exhaust cement for a long term seal.
Does the manual say the heads have to come off?

Re: I need a little knowledge
I'm not sure, The 462 heads I have are '67 units and they raised the port floor quite a bit. The '65 heads I have are like the early head ports. If the intake port is also raised on the 462 intake it might leak on an earlier head. Otherwise it will bolt up. I'm not near the parts to compare, perhaps...

Re: I need a little knowledge
Stay away from the 58 to 60 Lincoln, Edsel, Thunderbird, or Mercury. They are visibly taller and might cause hood clearance issues.
You would want to stay with the '61 to '65 units for best fit. Don't know specific casting numbers but should start with C1 up to C5
Aftermarket 4v are unknown to me.
