1958 Export 383 and 430 specs

Hi there, I read about the "spacers" for the 383 and 430 in 1958, lowering compression from 10.5 to 7.14 or 7.25 respectively. I am wondering if anybody has the ratings (Torq and HP) for these low-CR "export" engines. Not that ratings are always accurate, but they might give a feel for how much was ...

Re: MEL 462 How much net Horsepower

Tom, Good move if they don't want to challenge you with that 1979 Lincoln. Since I am hunting the MEL forum here for a few days I came across your old post. Based on an old road test that puts the 66 Continental plus 2 people at 10.8 0-60mph 18.10 at 80mph 1/4 mile My Gonkulator says that 462/340 wa...

The dyno video.....Turn up the volume! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvstA-ZJ0DA Rick / Shelby#18: Hi there, I found my own post way back asking for specs on your build. Time flies! I see the specs and dyno result are now here. Searching the forum I found tons of good new info on the MEL, particul...

Re: '58 Edsel's 361 (303 HP) Factory Claim Vs. Real Dyno Results

Interesting pics and spec sheet on the 361/303 in 58 Fairlane etc, even if police only. On the Aug-Sep 1958 Hot Rod dyno session we should remember the following: * The starting dyno test gets only 210hp vs 303hp as rated, and they kinda rag on the rating after that. * That dyno test was pretty much...

430/360hp carb on FE Forum

In the forum (not classifieds), looks like willing to part with this 430/360hp 600cfm carb.
This was the first List 1850 carb.
In case anybody needs one, it would probably run pretty doggone good on any stock 430-4v.

Re: 1958 383 Mercury Holley carb info ???

No score for this post January 10 2005, 7:49 PM I have almost finished this Holley carb (EDGE list 1616) but one thing has bothered me some what. The air bleeds on the primary side. The two inner primary air bleeds are missing, there is just a hole. Is this the way they came from the factory? I've ...

Re: 430 Merc runs 14.02 at 101.5, 420hp

66L: Actually, I will give you my opinion of that old phrase about torque winning races - Torque is completely meaningless. I can send 1200 ft-lb of torque to the rear axle - easily - with my bare hands (and a 6 ft pipe.....) But, so what? I can't make that pipe do work - action - at the RATE at whi...

For any of you still having doubts about the MEL check out these sites and Brian Stefina's Super Marauder: http://www.blip.tv/file/433815/ The video is totally cool but so are the underhood pictures. I am trying to get more detail but from the article it looks like it is a nearly stock 430-6v, my gu...

Re: MEL Engine Series Combustion Chamber & Piston Design

Shelby18, Can you post the specs on your 430 build for the dyno so I can try to make a prediction up front? Dyno tests on MEL are SO rare I am anxious to compare to some real data. Carb[s] Intake Heads - valves - porting Exhaust (which manifolds, or headers & pri diameter) Pistons (ok saw em) Compre...
