Re: 59 Mercury wiring issues

trobbins: I hope you don't mind my attaching a similar question to your post. I have a 58 Mercury Monterey, 383 cubic inch, Merc-O-Matic push button auto trans. I also see a single black wire coming out of a part I can't name yet that is near the back of the engine bay, hovering just over and behind...

Re: Mercury History

With demise of the Mercury brand, if you crystal ball the thing, do you all see the value and demand of Mercury's increasing over time? Will we see a nostalagia and increasing demand for Mercury classic cars, as the years pass, since they will never be produced again? Mind you, not that I intend to ...

engine color '58 Merc 383

Hi all:
What is the engine color for the '58 Mercury, 383 cubic inch. Got some rough spots on one piece and want to paint to match original orange/red color.

Re: Transmission leak / '58 Merc Monterey

Keithol: Thank you for your response and detail. I am awaiting my 1958 Mercury shop manual (bought on ebay). Once I get it, I will go to the mechanic armed with as much info as possible, as well as the excellent input I have received here. I appreciate you taking a look at your 58 Merc. Do you plan ...

Re: Transmission leak / '58 Merc Monterey

Thank you Theo. They fixed the cable problem, now we can get it out of park. I drove the car around for a good while before I left the shop, ensuring it was shifting well, into/out of park, etc.. The one part they could not fix, which I knew from the beginning, was the trans leak from the top, a sma...

Re: Transmission leak / '58 Merc Monterey

Thanks to both of you for your replies. Well, I am in a pickle. I took the car in to a shop that I thought knew what they were doing. They have had the car for 8 days. I took the car in for a trans oil leak. They replaced the gaskets and seals saying if they fixed one and had to drop the trans down ...

Hi all: Totally new to the classic car arena. After years thinking of buying a classic car, I finally pulled the trigger and just bought my '58 Mercury Monterey. She is beautiful, 10,130 ORIGINAL miles! I have a transmission oil leak I am dealing with, otherwise she is in trememdous condition, total...

Transmission leak / '58 Merc Monterey

I've got a 1958 Mercury Monterey, Merc-O-Matic auto (push button) transmission behind the 383 cubic inch, 312 HP engine. I have a transmission oil leak in what appears to be the vacuum modulator. I see the part on my car, and compare to pictures on the internet and it certainly appears to be the vac...
