Re: Distributor Advance and Pinging & Overheating
Unfortunately... I can't get better gas unless I go buy the racing gas... Here in CA the best I can do is 91 Octane, and it has less kick than my morning coffee... Also, I tried octane booster before, and it didn't help much. I did some research to make sure I was getting a decent octane booster, an...

Re: Distributor Advance and Pinging & Overheating
Thanks for the link. I shot them an email. So here is an update... I've got this hot rod shop that I've used previously, and they are really good. After talking through the issues, he is absolutely convinced that my problem is all in the ignition/timing. That has been my suspicion, but I didn't tell...

Re: Distributor Advance and Pinging & Overheating
Thanks for the idea. I also found a knock eliminator for J&S Electronics. http://jandssafeguard.com/ It looks like a really good solution to my problem. Since I didn't have a pinging issue around town, I could set the timing to the optimal setting for most of my driving... then, when I got under a l...

Distributor Advance and Pinging & Overheating
Ok, I posted this in the Lincoln forum too, so sorry to anyone who reads both... to make a long story short, I've been fighting pinging (and running hot) on my 63 LCC for like the last 7 years. This pinging only happens on the freeway, and especially if the freeway has any incline at all. I have reb...

Engine Rebuilder in Los Angeles
Can anyone recommend a good engine rebuilder in the Los Angeles / SoCal area for my 1963 430?

Re: Free 430 engine from a 63 Lincoln
I know, but the cam was a replacement used cam, and I think it may have been "cleaned up" a little. I didn't mic the tolerances, and it may have needed oversized cam bearings... It didn't matter because I found a used engine that was in really good shape to replace it. Rather than deal with potentia...

Free 430 engine from a 63 Lincoln
I'm pulling the 430 out of my 63 Lincoln Continental this weekend and replacing it with another. If you want my old 430, you can have it for FREE. You just have to come pick it up from my house in Valencia, CA. This is just the long block... so all you get is the block and internals (crank, pistons,...
