Re: Chris Craft 431 marine MEL motors
At only 8.0:1 compression ratio and that many cubes, I'll bet that thing sounds totally unique on the water, especially with the stancard unmuffled copper wet exhaust system. Chris Craft used many Hercules flathead motors of various sizes, some small and some very large, but they were all heavy iron...

Re: Chris Craft 431 marine MEL motors
Yes, same with the 427, used in boats after discontinued in cars, due to the warehouse full of them sitting on skids, awaiting installation in boats. The MEL marine motor is a fabulous low compression monster, in the old school style of Hercules flatheads. Big V8, low compression, lots of cubes, mon...

Re: Chris Craft 430's, Hello everyone...
Hi Peter, Hi Theo, The 430 and 431 Lincolns are great motors, the latter having the benefit of superior cooling systems with large volume internal flow. Yes, I'm mad alright, ha. I have some specifics about your boat so I'll email you, but don't want to post a cross link here to detract from the mis...

Plastic timing gear on the camshaft?
Hi guys, This is a MEL related question alright because it has to do with the 431 Lincoln engines Chris Craft purchased for marinization in their Galipolis Ohio engine plant. I don't know the answer but I suspect some of you guys here on the MEL forum do, because I think there are some marine motors...

Re: The Gizzle Hopper
Theo, That is a blast. I've seen old photos of blower-driven MEL dragsters but this is insane. The custom machine work alone must have cost a fortune, but I suspect the builder did the work himself as a labor of love. Thanks for showcasing this info to the MEL community, it shows what could be done ...

Redirecting to other boards
Hello all, I've been a fan of this board for years, and I know how hard Theo has worked to assemble and share this info for FREE to anyone who wants to enjoy, benefit from, and share info here. I also run a specialty web site where all the money comes out of my pocket. I'm doing it for fun, as Theo ...

Ha!But don't bother Paul; let them have it the their way. We don't need to attend all that. I know you prefer having a drink with me in the library and talk about the President and geopolitical affairs
Theo, I'm afraid I'm going to have to side with the Tillerchicks on this one!
