with a 40-ton press I picked up. I need a source for those chingies you use to change bearings and other stuff. I don't know the names. Pieces of round and u-shaped and thick flat steel that I've seen at machine shops. I didn't see anything at Harbor Freight. Do I have to hijack a Snap-On tool truck?
I don't think so. The shop I dealt with back in Cal had an array of these items in incremental sizes perched on wall pegs, including the chingies to press pistons pins on and off.
Not as much as I was looking for, but at least I know the correct general term now. I guess shop guys in this forum are using sledge hammers to R&R their non-FE piston pins and axle bearings.
Chingie is short for chingadero, Spanish slang for "fu#*ing thing", more or less. I have heard many Hispanics in L.A. use chingadero, but I believe "chingie" to be utilized mostly by us Anglos. I'm sure your Texas version probably has much the same meaning.

...you probably know that short pieces of schedule 40 pipe fits many bearing races perfectly.
I would go around to local plumber shops and see if you can pick through their scrap pile for short cuts. Also, try local industrial hydraulic dealers. Schedule 80 & 120 pipe is sometimes used, and the x-tra & xx-tra thick walls are great for many uses.
