Hi All,
Can anyone direct me to a good exploded diagram of the Ford 9" traction lock carrier assembly on-line? Just want to make sure all the shims are in the correct position.
Thanks in advance,
Nigel.

Traction-Lok diagram is in error

November 16 2008, 11:05 PM

In this particular diagram, the thrust washer (4228) is shown incorrectly between the L/H axle side gear (4236) and the clutch hub (4946). The thrust washer should be fitted over the spigot of the clutch hub so that is located between the clutch hub and the differential case cover.

The sole purpose of the L/H thrust washer is to prevent the clutch hub from galling the inside of the cast iron cover should the clutch friction plates be excessively worn away.

Tom

It is wrong

I ran into the same thing , I have a '70 Ford driveline manual that shows the shim in the correct position and I have a '72 driveline manual that shows the same diagram but with the shim in the wrong position such as the diagram that was posted . that shim does go on the outside od the clutch hub , NOT between the hub and gear .

That shim has caused me much confusion over the years due to different diagrams and every carrier I have stripped down had the shim in a different place. You have cleared this up for me at long last.
Cheers to all,
Nigel.
