I noted it first with Circle Track that you could read new articles on line just about as fast as those that subscribed.
Here's my friends Mustang that just made the cover of MustangEnthusiast on news stands

Re: Car Magazines why even subscribe? My Friends "Cover Car"

First off, your friends 70 Fastback is a nice car, although personally I can`t stand "cowl induction" hoods on any Ford. Ford had had so many different, nice looking hood scoops over the years, I just don`t get the attraction of having a "Chevy Lump" on a Mustang, or any other Ford.
As for the magazine itself, I thought that it may be a new publication, but alas, it seems to be yet another late model focused rag. Mostly ads for non functional trinkets like "custom painted plastic engine covers", "billet dipsticks and oil filler caps", and hidious plastic "body kits". Most of the cars featured are lowered 5.0 Fox & later Mustangs with big wheels. Theres even a late model Stang in there with "Lambo" doors!! I`m not saying that I hate the Fox cars, heck, both of my race cars are Foxs, and I also own a nice 79 Mecury Zephyr Z7 coupe (302 auto), but I sure wish that there was a high quality Ford and Mustang magazine that was oriented strictly to the older stuff, say pre 73. Back when Dobbs Publications was owned by Larry Dobbs, I used to subscribe to 3 of their magazines, Super Ford, Mustang Monthly, and MuscleCar Review. Unfortunately Super Ford is long gone, although the other 2 titles are still around. Now that I`ve had my "grumpy old man" rant, it`s time for breakfast!!

My '79 Mustang had a 'cowl....

induction' hood from the factory because the carb was a little too high for the normal hood line. After 'DCOE Weberizing', I finished off by making the opening at the back functional. It works for me!

To each his own, but I don't care for ..

cowl hoods on anything but Chevy's either. I'm no fan of snorkels, and really hate those huge new Pro Stock style scoops with the small round opening. Hell, I don't think I like my own scoop much, but needed something and didn't think a Hemi scoop would look right. The factories did have some great styles though.

snorkle boy

I'm afraid i've even had one car with a snorkle, a 5" windshield length one in a 65 Falcon convertible but that car had the Cobra LeMans valve covers flat against the hood with no breather caps and needed something to clear the distributor cap and TunnelWedge.

I've since gone to great pains to cure myself of that disease, abstaining from
anything other than "numbers matching" correct scoops for that model year. Even if that means making a lower intake manifold to clear the hood.

My 64 Comet is getting one of these...

The 66 has the factory Cyclone 'glass hood and my 64 Fairlane has the TBolt bubble.

I'd forgotten my own aversion to that Cowl Hood because of limited alternatives

November 17 2008, 2:19 AM

Perhaps a Boss 9 scoop would have done the trick better on his Stang. I to had a 79-1/2 Pace Car Mustang same as 80 Cobra and that was Fords only cowl type hood.
