Which FE clutchfork do i need???

Hey everyone,
I have a '65 Galaxie that I am trying to convert over from an AT car to a 4-speed. I have a '66 Fairlane 390GT Toploader (HEH CL) that I am planning on installing. (i know it's a little shorter).

My question is.....which/what clutchfork do i need for her. I have a '66 Galaxie FE bellhousing (car C60A) for her too.

I guess I need the small input one? Mustang? Galaxie? Fairlane? Is there a difference?

I have been generously offered a clutchfork with the clip from a '63 Galaxie for a T-10. The offerer tends to remember that it's the same as the later Toploader clutchfork.
Is this correct?

Thanks for all your help, time, and info.
Many of us would be lost without this forum.
Thanks again,
Steve Bava

Well, you are going to not like me but....

You use the throw out fork for the car, not the trans so you need a Galaxie fork. Problem is that the C6OA bellhousing won't work in a Galaxie without mods, you need a C5AA one for a big block. The one you have is for an intermediate or pony car and does not have an equalizer mount on it. You may be able to fabricate something but it is easier to get teh right part. Hawkrod

C60A bellhousing worth more than C5AA bellhousing?

November 14 2008, 3:34 PM

the C60A bellhousing is worth more?
really? i see the C5AA ones usually going for somewhere between $300-$400.
what did the C60A's originaly come on? maybe i can sell mine and recoup some of my money. what do they go for? this forum has been such a great help i would rather sell it to someone on here (for a little less) that is going to use it, than put it on EBAY.
Thanks again,
Steve

C6OA fits 390 and 428 Mustang Fairlane etc...

November 14 2008, 5:33 PM

Anybody paying $300-$400 for a C5AA bellhousing is a fool unless they are buying a pristine part for a specific date code. They were used in every FE with a stick such as Grandmas 352 3 speed wagon. They are out there, you just have to look and avoid the "427" bellhousing hype (yes, they are the same thing). The C6OA will bring between $300 and $500 depending on date code. a 70 date code is worth a bunch, a 68 not as much, A 66 even less usually. 67 dates are good for Shelby owners so they sell easy, late 68-70 fit CJ cars and so there ios a big demand. 66 only fits fairlane and Comet but it was used in the 427 cars too but there are a lot of them out there. If a guy does not care about dates then it does not matter anyway. Hawkrod.

Hawkrod , I dont think the C6OA was used in 427 applications

November 15 2008, 7:20 AM

The 427 Fairlane and Comet in '66 / '67 calls for the C5AA bell , I know the C6OA was used in the 390 cars . I am going by paperwork and parts lists so maybe the C6OA was subbed in during the '67 build partway through the year , but any I have seen are C5AA bells .

Your probably right, I looked it up in the MPC

November 15 2008, 11:12 AM

The MPC actually does not show the 66 427 Fairlane at all but lists the Galaxies as C5AA and 67 Fairlane as C6OA. It did not occur to me that the 66 would not use the C6OA as well. My mistake, sorry but that is what happens when you assume! LOL
