as that tire is actually near 30" tall. I run the stiff sidewall version(3056st) on the wagon on a 10" rim.
Might kinda kill off your low gear with it being 3.70 rear? You might be better off with a shorter tire? With my 4.56 gear, running low 11's, run thru at about 6200 rpm.

Sure wouldn't fit on my Mach 1, at least not without trimming the leading edge of the wheelwell a little. Biggest I could get under my car was a 28" tall 10" wide Hoosier.

I raced a 70 428 CJ Mustang I and the biggest tire that I could fit in was a 28 X 10 Goodyear on Weld Pro Stars that were 8 wide with a 4 1/2 inch back spacing. I think 28 is going to be as tall as you can run. My suggestion is a 28 X 9.
mounted on a set of 10" Centerlines right now(old set of race car). I can give you real time measurements if you need them. Heck, if you were anywhere close, you could try them out.
My friend ran a '70 and ran a 28x10W on it. We both agreed the 29.5 would be wayy too tall.

The STIFF sidewall tire is the newest, hottest thing out there for stickshift cars. It is available from MT in the 26x10 and 28x10.5 size. Hoosier offers it in the 28x10.5 They don't wad up the sidewall and bounce the rim off the ground like standard slicks do when hit with a big shockload. You may want to look into them.
I can't fit the 28x10.5 on my car, but am considering trying the 26x10 stiff sidewall.
Of course, pretty much ANY slick you can fit under the car will work just fine to go try your car out on the strip. Just put something on back there, and give er' hell! Have fun and go from there! Don't think too hard and over-analyze things before you go. If you do, you might never get there.
as I did ONCE. I went from a GY 28x10 to Hoosier 28x10 as it "Said" it was the exact same. WRONG!!! So wrong that it wasn't even close to fitting, period.
Until you actually mount and compare those charts are not accurate.

the housing moved back around an inch or so. I had a friend who tried to install big street tires on a 1969 mustang, and gained quite a bit if room by moving the housing back a little. Tires were centered in the wheelwell MUCH better after moving the housing back.
looks to me that the car had the rear centered in the wheel opening. There was no way a 30 would have fit the 70 Mustang I was racing. That car had the totally stock rear suspension.
Nope it's in the stock location. Now I'm not sure if the quarter panal was cut or anything but I don't think it was. It is a tight fit and was rubbing in a few place but made the adjustment and they fit good now.
I guarantee that something has been done to that 69`s 1/4 panels to make those slicks fit. A 30" tall slick would be hitting the factory wheel openings badly just sitting still, let alone with high speed tire growth. I`ve had slicks on several of my 69 & 70 Mustangs, 28 1/2" was the tallest I felt comfortable with.

Even if it fits when sitting still, a bias ply slick will grow at speed. If it's a radial it shouldn't grow.
A 28.5 tire was the tallest that would work on my 69. I tried a 29 which fit while the car was parked but it rubbed the front of the wheel opening when the tire grew.
Like N20 Mike said the rearend could be moved back a bit.
I agree that a 28" slick is about as tall as a stock 69-70 Mustang will hold comfortably, as Jay mentioned, the front of the wheel opening is the closest point. A 9x28" M/T slick shoulfd fit fine, although they actually measure a bit less than 27 1/2" tall. Frankly, with 3.70 gears, I`d be tempted to try the 26" tall M/T`s, I make plenty of 11 second passes on the 8 1/2" x26-15 M/T`s I used to run on my 69 Mach 1. If you think they are too small, they also make a 10x26" slick.

All of those guys fold in the lower frt and rear of the rear whl wells for clearance. I would think your car should pull well w/28x11's. 489" may overwhelm 26's w/your 1st gear.
