| I do them all as you outlined. I started doing them all after reading it outlined in some magazine in the early 70s by a stock racer.. I have done all of my 428s. I run the 5/16 bit up from he mains and it does seem to remove a little material, but not much. I think it just makes sense that you want the oil to be restricted by the bearings and nothing else. I recently got my first first, second, and third actually, 427 and before sending this stock block out, I went to do these mods. What I found was that the oil passages were already that size on a stock 427 marine block. I know many will disagree, but the FE oil system is not great and I don't think you should use a hyd. cam in anything other than a very mild build. Ford ran solid cams in most street, and all marine and industrial 427s for a reason. The main oil hole also matchs the bearings on a 427. I think the reason for the way they are on the 428s was just to keep some oil up to the hyd. lifters. I personally would rather have that oil at the mains. Some people have this idea that you need to adjust lash on a solid cam every week or something. That just is not the case. |
