Although in practice I'm more akin to the posters above, i.e. I have "drivers" and get more enjoyment from a half price score on Craigslist than finding an NOS $1500 dual snorkel air cleaner, I feel like I gotta represent the other side, the "concours restorers".
I dislike the "their cars are furniture" or "if they're not driven, what good are they" arguments. I'll lay odds that many of those who say such things have either a living room with white carpets that nobody ever sits in, a set of "good" china that no one ever eats from, or a manicured lawn that nobody ever walks on. Yet somehow these folks are content having nice things to gaze upon and take care of that don't really fulfill their original purpose anymore. Go figure.
People are different, and I believe that the guy who carefully documented that his early built '64 427 R-code should have a 4 blade fan, paid $2000 for an NOS rear bumper and now wipes it once a month with waterless spray and microfiber cloths is JUST AS LEGIT of an enthusiast as the guy who puts headers on his Mustang and burns his tires all the way to the donut shop every Saturday. It may be a different kind of fun, but its no less real or important. Its like arguing that pizza is better than steak.
