| I made the mistake of sandblasting and then painting a set of hinges on my 62 full size mercury. They worked perfectly before and then would stick up slightly afterwards requiring me to push hood down the remainder of the way.
I decided to replace them and called a place in New York that rebuilds them. I told them I sandblasted hinges and before I could finish sentence they asked if hood/hinges stayed up in the back requiring me to manually push down.
They said sandblasting ruins the rivets and another sign your rivets are bad is the rear of hood stays up slightly when closing. I am assuming they loosen up and or get stretched out when going bad.
Here's a link to rebuild place. They charge $229 for a set that is stripped and re-assembled. They still need to painted. They charge a $200 core charge as they want yours back to rebuild.
I can pop in a small rivet but these are massive rivets and look like they require a machine press to assemble.
