| Saying you have an 8" might sound impressive to the ladies but not to car guys.
I broke the bearing caps off the back of one in a 200 six banger Falcon, but then i'd sometimes driven it like a yard ape.
I've seen 11 second stick cars with an 8" (Rory, remember Jason Gibson's car?) but that's the exception to the rule and don't expect longevity for it.
An 8.8 is plenty tough other than the 28 spline axles. I'm aware of several low 8 second cars with them.
