Back in the late '70's I had a 1972 Vega with a 2300cc aluminum engine, no cylinder sleeves.
By the end of that decade the car was terribly neglected by my father. After having it handed down to me I did massive maintenance on it.
The only thing I could not fix was the burning oil. So at the suggestion of a good friend I changed the oil and used ARCO Graphite oil.
The oil looked burnt and his theory was "you can't burn burnt oil."
The results were amazing, it stopped smoking and engine response improved.
I think that if this oil was out sooner and mandated by GM for this car there may be more Vegas on the road today. Well maybe more aluminum engines at least. The Vega is long gone due to rust but I
