| Hey Paul,
Now that I no longer own my much loved 38 Exp, I still have boatitis (the CCC strain)and I'm working on treatment with the full knowledge that there'll never be a cure.
It's in the form of a Sea Skiff, similar to yours, sitting on a trailer just N. of us on Lake Champlain. There's no "for sale " sign on it and the registration sticker shows that it hasn't been renewed since 04'but it's well covered although the weeds around it are quite high.It has trans-drive but I can't tell what motor it has in it.
The cottage that it sits in front of seems only to be used on weekends so I think I'll drive up this Sat.and see what's what.
It seems only fair that since I suggested that you buy Mr. Flowers'that I get one for myself!
I'm also enjoying the post's about what head turner's these Commanders are. One of the things we most enjoyed when we owned our 31' and 38' was entering a new port or just passing the local yacht clubs on a weekend afternoon and the reaction of people who would just stop what they were doing and watch us "pass in review".
I'll keep y'all posted on my quest.
Regards, Steve |

It also handles the chop like John's new Lancer and Bill and Wes's 23 Commanders, well allmost. The other day Alan Jackson's LADY J was spotted steaming down the river full speed. They were on their way to Riverfront Park due to all of the Country Music Award activities and I suspect Mr. Jackson was going to entertain aboard his beautiful Berger.
As they steamed on by, I pulled around and waved, and got a nice long pull on the trumpets. Then I had some fun with the wake and the incredible pulse that boat left on the one mile stretch down river. As I powered up some of those pulses, the Skiff hull came almost all the way out of the water. I was actually concerned about breaking something, but it felt like I landed in a big pile of cotton.
I can certainly help you with much of the sourcing and technology about that hull, been there, done that. The outdrive will offer some challenges, but also some opportunities. My Skiff does not steer like the traditional flat bottom Chris ski boat. It won't do a slide turn to save it's life, it has too deep a V. It sure tracks well but you have to slow down for a tight turn. On the outdrive I suspect the boat is actually a much better handler in that regard, but don't know. The V has a way of making the boat want to maintain a forward motion, and I suspect this is common to all similar hull types.
Steve, you would look good in a skiff hull, lol.
Hope all is well with you and yours, we enjoyed seeing you in Michigan last year. Hope you are able to make it to Huron Ohio.
Regards,
Paul
