i'm building a 1961 Ford F100 and looking for an engine and transmission..
i have the option right now to go to a local salvage yard and pulling any engine or tranny for
$150 each..
my friend who builds derby cars just called me and said he would sell me a complete 462 out of a clean running 66 lincoln contenental with an origional 133k miles AND transmission for $300.
this is all very tempting but i'm worried about being able to find ANY parts for this car without spending years at swap meets or spending hundreds of dollars at machine shops for custom built parts
i'm not trying to make some crazy drag car or anything i just want a fast clean pro-street style truck.
any suggestions on what i should do?
and if anyone knows some sites i can look at for any type of parts?
thanks a lot

...and concerned about a reliable everyday driver, I would go either 351W or 460. While overhaul parts are readily available for the MEL, it is an expensive engine to build.

ditto! Look for a 460 from any Lincoln Continental or Mark III from 1968-1971. Those are great engines and I just sold my 460 to a guy who is going to put the block in his '69 Mustang for drag racing. I'm willing to make my 462 work well in my Lincoln but its very expensive. Check craigslist.com Good luck

That is the question....Anyone can put together one of the popular FoMoCo engine families. Have not checked...but if they are anything like the SBC....China will supply you with all that you need. Running these engines are not for people who can get by with other powerplants of equal or greater HP, easy parts access, and without the drain on the pocketbook. These are only for the people who love to hear comments like "What the Hell is that?" "OK, you mean 460 right..not 462" , and the best one "They are basically the same as a 390, right?". Bottom line...being different costs money. Being the same as everyone else, costs less. What is that saying about walking a road less travelled......
