I just received replacement pistons for my 58 430. These are flat tops instead of the original step the old ones had. Guy at PST that I purchased them from said these are correct replacement, and I would only lose .5 on my compression ratio.
I them called Egge, which is where these pistons were made. He said the dome or step design was used on 63 and newer engines. I don't know what this profile looks like. Wondered if I can use the later profile in my engine. Has anyone done this on their early 430 engine?

If the pistons you have bought do not have the same dome shape, they are incorrect. These are not pop-ups but specially designed as they actually make the combustion chamber.

The 63/65 430 4V had a more pronounced dome shape as they were redesigned (along with a small chamber in the head) to create better flame travel.

Look throught all posts and there will be a host of info on MEL piston shape and why they are unique.
