My plans are to take my 59 model block, 462 crank and BBC aluminum rods to the machine shop by early Jan. The shop is very experienced race/hp builder but with the generic run of the mill animals. Nothing like this MEL. I'm concerned with the pistons primarily and who is going to get the job to make them up. I've filtered through all the available postings in the archive and intend to contact Wiseco next week to see who it is....there (hopefully they are still alive)...that has some knowledge on how to get these made up. At this point I don't know what the overbore is going to be nor the stroke from the offset ground 462 crank. I'm shooting for 527 ci. About the only good thing I can think of right now is that It's not going to be a blower motor. Just an old time, high compression, big cube engine. Can anyone here help?

Here's the link to a post I did earlier in the year on the Wiseco pistons I used for a MEL engine.

Doing a search on the forum didn't bring this post up but found it by just knowing the time frame I did the engine. I was actually surprised the pictures were still alive within the thread.

Fe's are a thrill a second when they run mid eights but Y-Blocks are just plain fun when they run 9.60's at 135mph in the quarter.

You will gain .400 stroke with conversion to BBC rods. Stock journal size is 2.6 on MEL and 2.2 on BBC. Priciples are the same as on stroker BBC or 385 series fords. Go long rods and put the research into the pistons. Spend the extra bucks and get good quality pistons that can also handle nitrous, and use low tension rings. Lots of good stuff available. Be careful on over bore. Some blocks will not take a big over bore. Keep us posted TJR

Blocks to bore

58 & 59 had the thickest walls, but very early 58's had some core shift issues. Be sure and have it cjecked. We bored 58/59's .125 with no problems whatsoever and used a blower and nitro.
