Pilot bearing

The engine I am looking at buying has a pilot bearing in it. Were any of these hooked up to a manual trans from the factory? Maybe somebody in the past put it in something else. Right now I know that it is a '59, 4V, black paint and has the pilot bearing in it.

The 58/60 MERC came through with a 3/S and I would think a 3/S/OD.
